Match Report |
Blue Mountains played very well as a team in a close game against St Josephs who had a few breaks their way and were flattered by the 4-0 scoreline. Cameron, Mitchell C and Aden defended resolutely and used the off-side trap well with James B solid in goal behind them, Liam, Ben, Mitchell H and Ferret worked tirelessly and effectively in midfield while Justin and Stephen’s work on the right wing deserved better results. St Josephs opened their account after only 3 minutes following a breakaway when the linesman’s flag surprisingly stayed down. BM ‘keeper James B effected 2 good saves before the ball ran to an unmarked St Josephs forward. Blue Mountains were not disheartened with Justin making a great run up the right wing to win a corner only 3 minutes later. 5 minutes after this, Justin’s free kick found Stephen on the right wing whose speed beat his marker and his cross found Liam following through to win another corner. Just 2 minutes later Justin’s pass found James C, he passed to Stephen whose shot was saved. 6 minutes later Mitchell C’s clearance found Stephen who made a great run up the right wing and his centre was just out of the reach of James C. Meanwhile backs Cameron, Mitchell C and Aden were working the offside well with Cameron’s speed restricting the St Josephs’ forwards on several occasions when they broke through. However a breakaway in the last minute of the first half resulted in a second goal and half time score 2-0 in St Josephs' favour. The second half opened similarly to the first, with St Josephs getting a goal within 5 minutes after sustained pressure. 6 minutes later Liam’s through ball found James C who beat a defender in a run to the left of the penalty area, his cross found Stephen who wasn’t able to properly connect and his header was just wide. Blue Mountains tired in the heat as the second half progressed and, despite some good work on the left wing by Justin and Samantha, they were unable to repeat the sustained attacks of the first half. St Josephs extended their lead 14 minutes into the second half to give the final 4-0 result. |
