Match Report

Again we had the bare seven, no subs, thus ensuring a good workout for the team. Arwen went in goal in the first half and employed what she had been practising in the warm up, launching a couple of great kicks out of her hands. We found it hard to break down the Hawks defence – Riley broke the dead-lock and and Ashton jinxed passed one before rifiling off a cracking drive with trusty left foot. Riley and Maeve played two short corners, showing the confidence to use training routines in a match. Connor and Kane were solid in defence in the first half, breaking up the Hawks raids well.

Half time team talk focused on the need to play passes out of defence out wide to catch the Hawks on the break. Ashton went in goal for the second stanza. Connor and Kane pushed into the midfield and the girls, were the defensive pair. Everyone showed that they had listened well at half time as the game opened up. Riley got a few more well taken goals, showing his natural finishing skills. He also blocked one Hawks shot just as the striker was about to hit it – great defending. Kane was rewarded for a great game with a goal – Riley drawing the last defender on the break to lay for Kane to score. James did a great job out wide, again doing what we have been working hard at in training – running down the wing and pulling the crosses back for team mates. James got a goal for his efforts too. Finally, Arwen and Maeve defended really well together and Maeve got on the score sheet, taking a direct free kick about 10 yards (much to Riley’s initial frustration!) and hitting it beautifully well pass the goalkeeper.

POW was close but went to Kane for a great defensive display in the first half and then for taking players on a lovely goal in the second.
