Match Report: Today our mighty warrior women showed us just how far they’ve come and how resilient they are. In a close first half, the girls kept up the pressure no matter the obstacles thrown their way. Driving the ball forward from the backline, our defenders, Sophia, Christabel, Leiah & Chloe displayed fearless tackling power and sheer determination with their mighty kicks landing on target for our ever-ready midfield.
Here, the stamina, speed and strength of Xanthe, Matilda, Abi & Tirzah kept our opposition out-run and created multiple goal opportunities that had the sideline perpetually on their feet.
Our attacking line up of Torla, Annabelle & Isla demonstrating the importance of supporting each other during advances, picking up many loose balls and consistently increasing our goal opportunities. Despite a sneaky lapse that saw Jamisontown take an early lead, Isla quickly answered back to level the score.
With tensions building in what was a truly close contest, the improved teamwork, communicating and passing by our girls allowed us to match their attacks and answer back with a 2 all equaliser off the boot of Matilda going into the break.
Second half saw our ever reliable goalie, Audrey, have the chance to take a run in the midfield today, opening up multiple goal opportunities and earning her the well deserved coach’s nod for player of the match. Donning the gloves, Chloe demonstrated her spectacular dive skills, saving the very few balls that our brick wall defenders hadn’t been able to drive out. But the absolute gusto the girls brought onto the pitch for half two kept Jamisontown perpetually on the back foot. Clean tackles, powerful advances and well communicated teamwork all came together allowing Matilda to deservedly land the decider of the day.
A much needed win for a powerful team who have worked hard and demonstrated that fostering team unity and pride, sheer determination and never giving up can work towards turning any season around. Well done girls!
