Match Report U8 Cougars – Season 2010

Another fantastic season from the mighty Cougars.  Many a great win and a few character building losses.  Don’t forget boys, true winners know how to lose and congratulate their opponents … and not blame the ref!  The boys clearly benefited from the amassed knowledge of the two super-coaches (Phil and Pat), to such an extent they often managed themselves during the matches, showing some of the best passing of any team in the age group, working as a team and having fun.  Here’s the squad who entertained all …

Tom Wrightson: Golden Boot award (again!) … but in addition to scoring lots of goals, he set up many a goal with great passing.

Ethan Ridley: “Junior” always puts his body on the line … taking and receiving the big hits.  A few goals to remember too!

Ben Heywood: Still the owner of the biggest boot in U8 soccer, which he proved with his goal from the halfway line.  He scored one with his left foot too! (It does work!).

Jack Higgins:  The speedster of the team, providing great cover in defence and a few goals up front.

Zac Kingsford: Zac returned to the Cougars adding his skill and vision to provide new options in attack.

Angus Callinan: Despite his mid-season break, the Mighty Angus muscled up providing steel in midfield and defence.

Oliver Magri: In his debut season, Oliver quickly settled in … an absolute tiger in defence … never giving up.

Heath Stanners: Another in his debut season for the Cougars, a great team player with his speed and skill.

Dan Bowden: The rugby player always gave the opposition a mauling, got so close to his first ever goal … you’ll get one next year!

Julian Bray: One of the most improved players of the year, Julian showed good close skills, great awareness and passing.

Let’s not forget a big thanks to Lyndall, the super-efficient manager who made it all happen.
