vs Claremont Meadows
Opposition Score 6
Match Report Blue Mountains looked somewhat rusty after the holidays and conceded a goal after 8 minutes following an attack down the right flank. They then settled down to more disciplined play with backs Tom, Ben, Mitchell C and Sarah holding firm. After 17 minutes a skillful piece of defending by Steven enabled Mitchell C to make a well-placed clearance which led to a period of Blue Mountains attacking. Otis found Mitchell H who passed to Will on the right, forcing a defender to clear conceding a throw-in. Then Otis, Mitchell H and Liam combined well on the left flank but without reward. 5 minutes later Will and Liam combined well on the left, passed to Steven whose pass to Otis was well intercepted by the keeper. Then Will’s through ball led to a defnder conceding a corner.
But after 25 minutes of play a concerted Claremont Meadows attack was initially thwarted by 3 brave saves by James but eventually resulted in their second goal. A disheartened Blue Mountains then conceded 2 more goals in the last few minutes before half time.
The second half started more evenly but Claremont Meadows again scored after 9 minutes following an attack up the right flank. This seemed to energise Blue Mountains, Mitchell H and Will combining well on the right culminating in Mitchell H’s shot being saved by the goalkeeper for a corner. Mitchell C then achieved George Best’s speciality of scoring direct from a corner! The remainder of the second half was reasonably even, with one more Claremont Meadows goal a few minutes before the final whistle.
