Match Report

WOW, what a game!!!
(1st match report for the season and it’s a long one)

Warradale, who were 1st at the end of the regular season, and undefeated, played 14/4 Blues, who just managed a 4th place finish after a mid season slump and with some results going our way.

We have been able to play some attractive football and create many opportunities, sometimes without the reward to show for our efforts.  It has been a pleasure to see coaching put into practice on the field and players develop to where they are thinking about what they are doing and options to improve their position.

This game was about commitment, support and control.

Everyone played their role and we controlled what proved to be a high-quality, fast-paced game.

Pace in attack and defence, composure and quality ball delivery in midfield, slick passing moves end-to-end and above all a desire to be there for their team mates, saw us defeat the undefeated.

One goal in the first half upped the pace and our defence and clean sheet Tom W the keeper were tested many times.

Ert and Tom M were rocks in defence and with Zac and Brendan closing down attack options from their wings, we scraped through to half-time still ahead.

Ben and Brendan linked with Josh in attacking through midfield and switching the ball to Nadine and Reagan to bring down the wings or centre.  Ben’s commitment to putting his body on the line in attack and defense frustrated their key players and saw him and others take some big hits.

Jacob and Brad playing nearly every position from defense through midfield to striker kept our fresh legs rotating and caused Warradale to have to adjust to different playing styles.

Liam and Matt combined very well up-front, which saw the opposition defence often in two minds and scrambling to close us down, finally falling apart for Matt to tap the ball in after great lead-up work.

A change to our structure allowed us to bring pace into play across the park and whilst the linking players were bruised, bashed and exhausted by game end, we never lost our composure.

I know we, the parents and supporters, are looking forward to a repeat of the effort shown as we head towards the end of the season.
