Match Report |
This was the much anticipated top of table clash between the two undefeated sides. As soon as we saw St Marys Convent going through their drills an hour before kick off we knew they meant business. To add a bit more tension, the official referee got stuck in traffic so a stand in had to be organised by BMFC as the home team, and the opposition were not happy! Once everything was sorted out, the game started at a cracking pace. It was complete end to end stuff, with both sides controlling the ball with great skill and turning defence into attack with huge clearances. Some cracking shots on goal went unrewarded but did send a strong message. Every ball was fiercely contested with nothing splitting the sides until Blue Mountains took the lead with a fine left foot effort from our reliable centre forward and Man of the Match Alec Chapman. Not five minutes later, a loose ball and some scrappy play in our own penalty box saw the scores leveled at 1:1. Our composure was brilliant and the precision passing was paying off with another well taken goal by Alec after a slick movement towards the opposition’s goal, giving us the half time lead at 2:1. The kids came out firing in the second half; Jack Glasheen was on fire, stopping anyone who tried to get past whilst Nick Giles and Noah Jackson motored back on many occassions to snuff some dangerous attacks. Once Alec smashed the next goal into the net to get to 3:1, we thought we could sniff a victory, but the opposition had other ideas. With almost 10 minutes left of the game, St Marys snuck one past to bring it back to 3:2 and set it up for a nailbiter that went right to the wire. Molly also had the right side covered with some stubborn defence and quick scampers down the touchline. Great work by all the midfield, Sonny again proving a real horn in the opposition side, and a tireless workrate by Daniel ‘Doolsy’ Madden combined beautifully with our speedy wingers Daniel Neale and Nick Schembri, who turned them around time and again. It was a hard earned win, and we can only expect an even more determined St Marys Convent side at their home ground. Bring it on! |
