Match Report

With only ten boys available we travelled to Hazelbrook to play a team that had weeks earlier beaten us in a friendly. This time we were more organised, more confident, and several players were moved into differant positions and roles. Kali Ferris-Smith is one such player, another two goals this week, a great achievement from midfield. He moved back into defence for the second half allowing Cameron Haywood a chance to shine in the middle of the park. Cam added the sixth goal, a powerful well placed strike in the dying minutes. New players Ben Cross and Aiden Morgan have slotted well into the team and contribute greatly to the awesome style of football we’re playing. Ben’s accurate passing and Aiden’s surging runs up the wing all help with our attacks. In defence Gieran Vowels is was reliable as ever, a very strong competitor. Fletcher Allison also got stuck into the hard work, never shirking from any big tackles. Holding it all together at the back and organising superbly was Brandon Dejonge. It was great to see goals coming from three differant players, losing a great goalscorer from last season was initially a worry, but the boys know they have to take more responsibilty. Tristan Watson did his share today, tucking away a hatrick, all nicely taken. The mood in the team is happy, a bright start to the year and as Timothy Khina quipped post match, "WE COULD OF PROBABLY BEATEN THEM WITH NINE". Great to see the boys smiling, wins over the years haven’t always been easy.
