Match Report

The 35/4’s delivered an inspiring performance in the match before ours holding Glenmore to a draw despite only having 9 players, some of whom were carrying injury – great effort boys.

We were three players short of a full squad today: La Celeste was out, sick at home; Leeds was out working; and Swinger was ‘working it’ in Thailand – more about that later…

A tight first half was highlighted by just the one goal. Harry and Kozy scrapped down the right hand side winning the ball back off the Woodies defence. Harry put a cross in that Yul Brynner ran onto to meet with a rasping volley past the keeper.

Luxury player Ipswich dinked a couple of balls over the defence for Maximiliano to run onto but the timing was not quite right; Smarty filled in for the absent Swing at left back and was solid the whole game; Chop Chop was in all the action – one bone crunching tackle typical of his whole hearted performance.

In the second half we continued to look stable at the back until The Hoff, from a goal kick, played the ball across his own box. One of the Woodies nipped in and hit it first time out of the reach of the Swerv. 1 all.

Knowing that this was a must win game for us to keep in top 4 contention, the intensity lifted. Harry was upended about 20 yards out and a swift substitution brought Maximiliano on to take the free kick – his strike hitting the apex of goal post and cross bar.

Roberto let his opposing player know that he had him in his pocket with close marking and a few choice words to boot; Dicky Knee is getting close to avoiding the end of season nudey run bursting into the box on more than one occasion to get on the end of a cross only to fire wide.

With only seven minutes left on the clock, Ipswich finally got one right lifting the ball over the defence early for  Maximiliano to run onto. The big keeper came off his line and the ball was duly dispatched over his head and into the empty net. Relief is probably the right word.

We held onto the final whistle.

I let him know and he replied that he was pleased he wasn’t missed too much and he may stay and extra week as he had made a lot of new friends – I thought I’d share it with you all…are you sure they are Ladies Swing, not Boys?
