Match Report

It was a dark and stormy afternoon that saw the AA5’s debut against Wenty. This team from Wenty were currently the wooden spooners of the Division but, as with most Divisions, the wooden spooners could win if they turned up on the day.

Captain Tingles decided to trial a new midfield setup, losing the stopper and gaining a second defensive midfielder. Like the winged keel (some will be too young to know this analogy) this new setup could be the winning secret weapon!

The setup effectively gave Crank a free ticket to do all he could to make things manic! And he did just that – bamboozling the opposition with some effective attacking play.

Too much descriptive prose – BAM – the corner comes into the box, ricochet and Balls heads a winner home!!!

A few moments and some good passing later, GB decides to take out his 1 wood and take a strike on goal. The ball had speed wobbles at it as it streamed into the net just to the left of the right post.

BAM – another corner is crossed in – ricochet and G volleys one home (making up for an ineffective knee-on-goal and a disappointing right footer).

After half time the team kept on playing and passing well. The chances were more sparse with some near misses. Despite being a local game, the wrath of Ghengis could be heard in Wentworth Falls after his near miss (after a one-on-one). A few words are set aside for Tingles’ massive air raid on the goal. He must have been horizontal as he crossed the goal line with one particular effort. Yoda was caught saying "a good goal, it would have made".

Wenty stole a goal back. Disco’s man was too good for him in that encounter.

But, to take himself off the nudy run and to bring the team into a positive goal difference, Slasher headed a corner home. Slasher running nude at end of season parties is almost as regular as Denty doing a missile run. So it was with mixed feelings that the team congratulated "The Slash" today. Well done Slasher!

Again, I think all the team were impressed with how many corners we took (especially when you include GB’s and Tingles’ throw-ins!!!!!!). Fingers crossed for some fine weather so we can build some momentum, moving forward.

Not forgetting the left and right middies! These guys (and BK) run all day. You guys found lots of space today and crossed some fine balls. I think I spied a Nathan inspired version of the double entendre – but I can’t be sure. We’ll have you looking forward to one-on-ones before the season is out!!

And a very nice dash between the sticks Dorito!!
