Match Report |
With a semi-final spot guaranteed for the Mountains Men, some might expect a less than all-out two weeks from the finals. However, with Blue Mountains and Wilberforce destined to meet in the semi-finals, this match was played with a probing kind of intensity. Wilberforce began with drive and focus and put real pressure on early. Blueys were unable to withstand the pressure and conceded an early goal. It didn’t look good when Wilberforce continued the pressure and stuck a second time in the first twenty minutes. Blueys, just as they had in the 4-4 draw between the teams earlier in the season, had gone down two goals very early on. To the credit of the All Age 5s, they held their head high and fought back hard. Good passing and movement lead to some chances. A handball in the box lead to a penalty which Grasshopper duly converted to get the boys back in the game. With five to go in the first half Blueys levelled the match with solid passing and a great finish from Grasshopper. Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration allowed Wilberforce to retake the lead just before half time. A change in personnel at the break and Blueys came out firing. An early goal in the second half, courtesy of a Grasshopper volley from a Tingles free-kick (genius, just quietly) had it all level again. I could mention who scored the winning goal, but I won’t – it would detract from the effort of the whole team. Great fighting spirit and a good lead into the finals. |
