Match Report 12.5 – 17 July, 2004

BMSC 1
vs
Jamisontown 2
Match Report A hard fought game with both teams having only 10 players. Tireless running by midfielders Liam, Mitchell H, Alex and Steven and forward Brenton gave Blue Mountains most of the attacking play but they lost to a late breakaway goal.

The first half saw Blue Mountains mounting many attacks from their midfield dominance. Backs Nathaniel, Ferret, Aden and Ben tackled and cleared well on Jamisontown’s few attacking forays and James was solid in goal, making good clearances. However the reduced numbers allowed only one forward and Brenton had a lot of ground to cover but he never stopped running into space.

Mitchell H made several good runs from midfield. One such run following an interception was stopped by a handball by one of the Jamisontown defenders. Nathaniel took a great free-kick from the right, crossing to the far post where it was met by Brenton whose shot hit the post. The ball rebounded to Alexander who was following up well, and his shot found the net to give Blue Mountains a deserved lead. Then Brenton put a through ball to Alexander whose shot from a fine run was stopped by the goalkeeper. The ball fell to Liam following up well and his shot was cleared off the line by a defender.

Late in the first half goalkeeper James was unlucky to be penalised for taking the ball just out of the penalty area where the line was not marked on the muddy pitch. Jamisontown were able to maintain pressure from the resulting free kick which ended with a goal against the run of play and the teams went into the half-time interval level at one goal each.

Blue Mountains continued to attack throughout the second half with the midfielders maintaining dominance. Steven put a through ball to Brenton whose shot was turned behind for a corner. The ensuing pressure resulted in two more corners but no goal. Brenton kept running into space, reaching through balls from Liam, Mitchell H and Alexander but his shots were saved on all occasions.

However the Blue Mountains attacking pressure was to no avail, with Jamisontown scoring a breakaway goal in the last few minutes to record a 2-1 victory against the run of play.
