On a very cold Saturday afternoon, everyone was really excited to finally get our season proper underway. We were up against our good friends and as we were the away team got to wear the purple tops. Finn went in goal for the first half and kept a clean sheet with some good saves. Goal kicks were worked very well, passing short out to the always available Jake. Alongside Jake at the back to start with was Eli and Aiden – both did well in unaccustomed positions. Kane and Dom played up front to start with and worked well together. Damo replaced Kane midway through the half and scored a great goal from a ball pulled back from the sideline. Alex Mills played the whole first half on the right hand side of midfield and contributed really well offensively, scoring one himself but also setting up two more – one for Con (crisp volley from a corner kick) and the other for Maeve (calm finish from a ball pulled back). Alex Mills went in goal for the second half and made lots of cracking saves as the opposition created a number of chances, particularly on the break. Ash played out wide on the left for the majority of his time on the park and delivered some super crosses for others as well as getting a few shots away himself – some great goalkeeping denying Ash in the second half. Finn backed up his good first half performance with a solid second in the centre of midfield combining well with Alex Cranbrook, who played a role in the forward line. A big thank you to Cameron (Damo’s older brother) for taking charge and refereeing for us. Connor was awarded PoW – a really assured defensive performance, one great powerful header in the second half and a quality volleyed finish – well done Connor, great to have you back!
