Match Report

Anticipating a tough game, a more defensive structure was employed in the first half. Eli was superb in goal (see photo, rising above all to punch clear) making a number of crucial saves. Jake, Ash and Dom and Connor when he came on were kept very busy in defence. We did manage to break forward a number of times – one ball across the box for Alex Mills that he put just wide. Alex Cranbrook was enjoying the freedom down the right hand side and caused his opposite number plenty of problems.

In the second half a change of tactic to throw more at Springwood to see if we could trouble them a bit more. It certainly worked as Ash raided down the left and whipped in a number of dangerous crosses. We got one goal with Dom running onto a ball behind the defence and dinking over the oncoming keeper. We could have had another with Damo’s shot from Ash’s corner just going wide.

Aiden demonstrated his adaptability dropping into the centre of defence in the second half and distributing out will. Kane put in a huge effort out wide getting forward as well as cover defence.

Beaten by the better team but the kids should be proud of their efforts.

Maeve was PoW for a tireless effort wide in midfield – tackling, chasing back and doing all she could to stymie the tricky Springwood winger.
