Match Report

Very cold and windy morning up in Wenty Falls but the kids (and parents) braved the conditions well.

We moved to a 3:2:3 for this game with the pre-game emphasis on receivers working hard to find space and playing ball quickly down the sides with good crosses in to forward and centre mids in front of goals.

We started with Aidan, Alex and Hamish up front, Kynan and Lachie in the middle and Layla, Issy and Riley in defence.

Josh was in goals first half and was strong after tough start with Grammar scoring 2 well fought goals following scrambles in the goal face.

Once we warmed up, we started to press and our formation worked well. Aidan controlled the set ups from the middle and Alex owned the left side with constant runs to the right spot with the ball and great crosses in.

Our mids positioned really well for the crosses in and it was only good defence from Grammar that denied us goals from several brilliantly created opportunities.

Alex finally broke the drought on half time and we got reward for our dominant use of the ball.

We moved Aidan to goals for the second half and pushed Josh, Riley and Corin up forward, with Luke and Martin behind in the middle, and Kynan, Lachie and Issy in defence.

The guys all showed good effort to contest and hold the structure and we created 4 really good opportunities to score, just not quick enough with our final ball movements and missed a few opportunities to pass to teammates in good positions to move the ball on quicker, which allowed Grammar to get back and close us down.

Will was inspirational in his defensive role in the second half and Alex continued to press down the side of the pitch and cross great balls into the goal mouth.

To be fair, Grammar played a really good defensive game, and were able to shut down some really good chances that we made for ourselves, so thoroughly deserved their result.

Our guys though played with good intensity and effort and worked really well to execute the game style the way we wanted and I was very happy with our team’s game this week.
