BMFC vs Blaxland

Match Report

A tough game was expected today and it was. Eli helped us out by playing in goal the whole game and did a great job saving the few shots that got through our cast iron defence.

Before the game the coach asked the team to make sure they put defence first and then try to catch the opposition on the break and take the few chances we created. The team executed the plan superbly. Ash scored the two goals on the break in the first half and came very close to a third. Xavier, Arwen, Kane and Kieran held their positions very well in defence making it really hard for Blaxland to create many chances. Riley played in midfield for most of the game and,   along with Aiden, got back to support the defence well and good passing allowed us to get forward. With Finn away, Maeve was asked to run and tackle hard all game and leave nothing in the tank – as usual, Maeve did exactly this in the centre of midfield. Up front Thomas, James and Geordie were rotated and did an excellent job when we broke. Thomas had a couple of shots and was unlucky not score. James dribbled well and came close on a couple of occasions too. Geordie continues to improve every week and should take confidence from a good performance today.

In the second half, Arwen protected herself well as the ball was belted toward her face. Unfortunately. protection was via her hands and a penalty was given. Eli was given no chance as the penalty taker belted it into the roof of the net. Continued dogged defence and quick breaks ensured there were no more goals in the half.

PoW was awarded to Kieran, just edging out a great game by Xavier. Kieran has come close to PoW on at least two other occasions and today got it due to an excellent defensive display against a very skilful and tough opponent down our right hand side. Well done, Kieran.

After the game we headed off for team photos. Connor was given a lovely surprise when Club President Dave Smith presented him with a signed football boot by Socceroos legend Harry Kewell, provided to the club for Connor by an anonymous donor. Connor (and Dad!) are very grateful to whoever you are for this really nice gesture … these things really help lift Connor’s spirits.
