Match Report

Our first away game of the season took us to Summerhayes Park. Beautiful weather and with close to a full team of kids everyone got a decent rest this week in each half.

Finn went in goal for the first half and made a few saves, just letting the one goal in when Springwood broke away quickly and we were left short at back. Kane, Kieran and Arwen rotated at the back all game and thwarted the opposition many times – Kieran in particular had a great game dribbling well out of defence and coming very close to POW. James was given the opportunity to play up front for the whole match and did fantastic, running at the defence and coming close to his first goal of this season on a number of occasions. Thomas and Geordie both played in more attacking positions this week and the coach was pleased to see the increased involvement in the game – Geordie positioning himself well on one occasion at the far post to get on the end of a Riley cross and nearly score.

Xavier played in midfield and won the ball well and found passes to colleagues in space. In the second half Xavier went in goal and like Finn made some good saves and only letting one in.

Aiden played midfield and forward and combined well with those around him to cause the defence many problems. Maeve was industrious as ever, scoring a goal for the second week in a row and linked well with Riley out wide. Riley played in more of a wide creative role this week instead of customary centre forward position. Coach was very happy with the ball winning, dribbling runs and crosses the created a lot of chances for others. Most notably, Ash got on the end of these chances, getting one in the first half and three more in the second. Add to this some good cover defence, mazy runs and bringing others into the game, POW was well deserved.
