Match Report

WOW! What a great game to start the season. Playing for the first time together as a team and against a very good Hazelbrook team the kids showed a tremendous fighting spirit.

Arwen went in goal for the first half and made some super saves. Thomas, Xavier and Geordie all worked hard, listened and did a great job both up front and in defence. We had a lot of the ball in the first half but got caught on the break and found ourselves 4-1 down at half time.

James went in goal in the second half and was outstanding, keeping s clean sheet. At the other end we chipped away at the Hazelbrook lead, getting in back to 4-4 with a few minutes to play. Kieran was fantastic all game, chasing every ball down and working hard for the team. Ash, Maeve and Finn’s stamina shone through – getting back to help defend and also getting forward to support Xavier and Riley up front. The winning goal started at the back with Ash breaking forward. Coach called out to take on the last defender and go for goal. Instead, Ash passed a perfectly weighted ball to Maeve who had sprinted forward in support to shoot past the keeper. Coach was wrong, Ash was right, well done Ash for taking the right option!

Maeve was player of the match for her non stop running in midfield. A few others were in the running too but Maeve just got the nod courtesy of backing up Ash so well to be in the right place to score the winner
