Match Report

LONG LIVE NIGHT-TIME FOOTBALL

St Clair made the journey to Knapsack Stadium not knowing what drama would become them.

Pretty routine first half, with no hint of the goal fest that was to unfold. Blueys on top,   creating several chances and being generally on top, while St Clair were intent on throwing their teddy out of the cot at every available opportunity. Half time 2-0.

Second half started as the temperature dipped and my feet became detached from the rest of my body, so the heat on the pitch turned up. Blueys received a penalty which was calmly despatched by Mr Semeniuk, who proceeded to celebrate with the frozen massed ranks of supporters on the hill.

Another great move by Blueys saw left winger nearly separated from his legs by St Clair sweeper intent on 1st degree murder. From ensuing free kick, pop, bang, lovely 4-0 … surely it’s all over (surely not).

St Clair, to their credit, never gave up and within no time at all had clawed their way back level. The second goal is worthy of special mention as it was on par with the Papa Cisse goal for Newcastle at Chelsea last season.

With full time approaching and DG placed on a respirator after seeing a 4-goal lead evaporate, the Blueys spirit came to the fore. A free kick was plonkled in the box, a small game of murder call erupted, with the end result being the ball bundled over the line for a heartstopping "get me off the respirator now" winner. 5-4 to the good guys followed by a very vocal rendition of the Blueys national anthem.

Great result, great night’s entertainment; "football’s the winner" I hear you say! NO! BLUEYS WERE THE WINNERS !! WELL DONE, BOYS.
