Match Report

Tough road trip to the ground that referees refuse to go to – at least that’s what the opposition coach would have us believe. Said coach of St Mary’s advised us he would be the ref…one minute before kick off, the ‘club referee’ arrived to take the reigns…we had the feeling things may not all go our way.

To the game and we started brightly, St Mary’s didn’t get a hold on the game early on. We took full advantage with Kojak volleying with great technique from just inside the box and La Celeste making it two after a Harry half chance was deflected. St Mary’s then stepped it up and got into the game. Our defence was solid again this week, repelling what was mainly crosses floated in. The Ice Man was player of the half giving the dangerous George Boateng, who had troubled Rash so much in the first game so much, nothing.

Manager George told us on the sideline that it was half time and about twelve minutes later the referee finally blew his whistle.

In the second half we continued our resolute defence, with The Kaiser not really having to make a save until late on. One goal that was scored was disallowed for a foul on the keeper…I take it all back, what a great ref!

La Celeste scored his second from a cross come shot that floated over the keeper into the goal – for those that were there/can recall, very Esky Merv circa 2010. La Celeste set up the fourth for Harry with a cross to the far post and JB completed the nap hand after Harry did well to shield the ball and tee it up for the shot into the corner.

Few more comical moments of note were the ref blowing for a throw in, when the ball was still two yards inside the line…Buggy played on using his ‘pace’ to outstrip the stationary defence. Ipswich checked with the ref how long to go and was told 15. Ten minutes later, Sean (no nickname, yet) asked the same question and was told 14…huh? Ipswich enquired if his watch was faulty and was told, ‘my bad’, meant 20 to go when you asked earlier!.

Excellent team performance and looking forward the local derby with Blaxland next week.
