Match Report: It was a top of the table clash and unfortunately the Blueys had a number of notable omissions due to injury and work commitments which left us with 12 available and required the inclusion of a couple of 35/3’s who for simplicity will be referred to as Muzza and Pirate 2. Knapsack had not recovered from the rain on the weekend and it appeared the Blueys boys were wearing ice skates for the first twenty minutes being unable to get the ball under control, unlike our opponents who seemed sure footed. Pirate 1 (the original) withdrew after 5 minutes suffering another potential season ending injury. The Blues began to gain some composure and a promising move was interrupted by a cynical challenge on Chicken that was so agricultural it would not have looked out of place at the Inghams farm.
After 25 minutes Coach Joe had seen enough and hooked the skipper deemed to be the most rubbish at this point to spark some life into the team. This had the desired effect with Pirate 2 charging up and down the line and shortly after our pressure was rewarded with a dodgy penalty. Cometh the hour, cometh the Ice Man who stepped up, saw the keeper go early to his right, slotted home of the inside of the opposite post. One nil heading into half time.
The call at halftime was to keep things tight and clear our lines for the first ten minutes; however, this was not heeded with Dave H who allowed the ball to bounce whilst calling “keeper” despite the fact Rhett was 20 yards away and on dodgy leg. The striker nipped through and got a rebound off Rhett, which went in to the goal.
Another point of discussion at halftime was not giving the ref the opportunity to square up the penalty, which we did after a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box and after lots of jostling which ended with Pirate 2 colliding with the opposition and a penalty was given. It was duly converted 2-1 down.
Despite sustained pressure Blueys continued to look for the equaliser and a beautiful turn in midfield saw Muzza escape two markers to send Chicken away who piroutted and fired a shot low to be well saved by the keeper.
As we pressed for the equaliser another under hit ball was intercepted and Hazo broke on the counter releasing their striker who went past two to coolly slot it in leaving Rhett no hope.
A loss is bad enough although more concerning is the 3rd case of McCartan syndrome occurring this season with Matt W following Micky C and Pommy leaving his gear behind after the game.
Some soul searching and hopefully some fresh replacements for the next match.
