Match Report: We travelled to Jamison Park to take on Penrith FC and were greeted by a warm autumn day, 32 degrees by kick off. The state of the pitch did not bring a smile to our faces as spectators pointed out the barely visible wobbly line markings hidden beneath the 8 inches of unmowed grass, not ideal for a team that like to play football on the deck.
We started slowly and struggled to adapt to the state of the pitch unlike our opponents who played to their strengths playing more direct balls to their alternating front 3. Their tactics paid off and they managed to get behind us to go 1 nil up. We battled through the first half, the introduction of subs settled us down and we started to work our way into the game. Ipswich ran so much he broke the Penrith right back who wished the half to end, we finished the half one nil down.
The second half brought more changes by Dunny as he rotated the bench in the intense heat. The rest multipliers were working as we started to run over the top of Penrith and got a break through from one of many dubious referring decisions with a free kick just outside the box. We were still trying to find our free kick taker having not converted any recently, so up stepped the next victim, Ibra. He lined it up and went over the wall and into the far corner past the diving keeper who to be fair never got close, he gets to take the next one.
We continued to press for the winner and got caught on the break with Penrith pinching one with 15 minutes to go, which Penrith started talking up. Luckily for us Ibra was only getting warmed up and slotted his second with 13 minutes to go which we might have mentioned to Penrith once or twice. The highlights of the last 13 minutes included a match saver by Double Fist, Lowndesy getting denied a penalty that everyone saw except the referee, Tollie suffering the ignominy of being sent off for questioning another inexplainable decision. The highlight of the afternoon was Ibra chanelling his namesake and on top of his two goals raised himself up off the ground to narrowly go over the bar. He was clearly playing at the top of his game.
