Match Report: A big squad today unfortunately Quinny did not see it as he was unavailable for selection. New addition greenie was drafted in, jonesy played his inaugural mothers day fixture and Tolley and pommy coming back from injury; pommy doing the right thing coming back into the team through the bench. Team was read out Zapps showing his versatility going between the sticks, his third different position in 3 weeks. After the team announcement dunny poised the question if he was still in the team as his name was not read out, an oversight which may or may not have been Quinny’s error but that is who got blamed, in fairness he had form from the week before.
We won the toss and elected to turn around and the emu team asked what was wrong with that half of the pitch;hey were soon to find out. Emu kicked off and we quickly forced a turnover a thorough ball to the pirate who hit it first time over the keeper. A goal within 48 seconds according to the APP quickest goal in 35/1 history according to the Pirate.
Today was the day the flood gates would open we thought. One goal up shocked us more than the opposition and we went into our shell with emu nearly scoring off a dodgy bounce in front of Zapps that nearly went through his legs. They had another chance shortly after off a nicely worked move that finished with a cracking volley that had hearts in mouths.
JB decided to take control and put his foot on the ball while surrounded by three emu players he danced and jigged creating a smokescreen from the dust and emerged with the ball leaving the emu players clearing their eyes and throats.
Shortly before half time Paulie was injured in what seemed quite innocuous however there were suggestions it was friendly fire.
We went in 1 nil at halftime.
The second half was a slog with Blueys unable to play their passing game due to the state of the pitch. We had a good opportunity to score off a corner with a great header by dunny no, quinny no, chewy no, woodsy no , greenie yes the one with the shiny head.
We finally got some relief when JB pulled down the ball in box and slipped it away to take us to two nil.
The Cobra who had put in a good shift was given a rest and then informed the bench he had completed 12,233 steps that day including the 4 km run in the morning, usually you only check Facebook to monitor excessive drinking before games – it is first that a player in this team is doing something healthy.
2 nil brought complacency as once again we relaxed and a couple of minutes later a rash challenge in the box emu got a penalty which was dispatched past Rhett.
We had an excellent response to the penalty with Brad still trying to score a goal for his mum on the sideline launched a great attack which was finished with a sublime overhead kick by Suarez, not a move that will be attempted by anyone else on the team for fear of injuring themselves or their pride.
3-1 the end result with a good overall performance. Andy Football put in 90 minutes of solid football still living on the high having watched Middlesborough get promoted to the EPL.
