Match Report: Glorious weather for Fathers Day and a mid-morning game at The Sack. First time this season on the show court and it was looking in schmick condition

The boys donned the alternate kit to ensure no clash with the opposition, Andy remarking the shirts looked really good on the lads

The first 10 minutes Jamo came at us hard and we had to defend, which we did well. No clear cut chances but plenty of pressure was soaked up by the starting back line of Brayden, Sam, Knobsy & Luke. Eli catching and covering well in behind

The next 20 minutes the boys put on some of the best football we have played all year. Possession was valued; a number of chances created. Aidy had a half chance in the box but hit his shot wide; Sam made a driving run forward from the back and hit a long range shot well that just went over. We took the lead at the 20 minute mark when Jacob put Ash just in behind the defence and from just inside the 18 yard box Ash unleashed a pile driver off his lethal left boot that hit the back of the net before the keeper had a chance to move

Liam and Harry Burns had a good hold of the centre of midfield; Luke, at CDM, defended well and took his opportunity to burst through the midfield into attack – getting one shot away that was not far off target. It was good to watch – Finn, Jacob, Aidy, Damo and Harry Smith all heavily involved

After 30 minutes Harry Burns made a run out of centre mid and was brought down some 25 yards out. Liam hit the free kick well and the power and trajectory beat the keeper

Second half and more of the same but we couldn’t find the back of the net. The closest we came was when Ash hit a free kick which found Luke in the box – his snap shot hitting the outside of the post. We didn’t concede though which is almost as important as scoring!

Martin and Damo both shined in the second half in midfield, attacking roles – really influencing the flow of the game

Super team performance – everyone played well today. Luke & Sam excellent at the back and both made driving runs forward on numerous occasions which I love to see. Brayden was relatable as ever at sweeper. Knobsy was the Coach’s choice for player of the match – although prefers to play in a more attacking role will always play in the back line for the good of the team when asked. Pace, read of the game, timely challenges and distribution were all on show today and rewarded with a clean sheet for the team. Well played Knobs!
