Match Report: Another epic State Cup tie for our 16-1 boys.
After an excellent performance on the Saturday v St Clair the boys once again backed up on the Sunday against a very talented Lilli Pilli side.
With all 16 once again available we arrived at Summerhayes Park full of confidence.
After a good warm up the match started at a frantic pace.
Lilli Pilli played some great football but our boys were equally good once we settled into the game.
With 5 to go in the first half, goalkeeper Jarrod made a fantastic save from a long range bullet.
Lilli Pilli kept coming and hit the crossbar with another excellent effort.
Bluey’s were hanging on but still fighting.
Half time 0-0.
Entering the sheds at half time I could see a lot of tired boys who were giving everything they had for the cause.
After a few words I said to them can you give some more and the response was amazing.
From the first whistle we played bravely and took the game to the opposition.
A great switch of play by Will W saw Tom play the ball into Will C and his pile driver was saved by the keeper, however he spilt it to Millsy who stuck it away for a 1-0 lead.
A end to end final 20 mins prevailed with Lilli Pilli throwing more and more men forward.
With a minute left they received a free kick in a dangerous situation and threw everyone forward.
We cleared the ball and Rhett stole the ball off their defender and had 70 metres between him and their goal.
On and on he went before unleashing a rocket into the corner of the net and chaotic scenes emerged.
All the boys celebrating in 1 corner me running in the opposite direction and then full time.
What a feeling for everyone involved.
We proceeded to belt the club song out in the sheds.
16 absolute heroes out there, some playing out of position, others running when they were spent but most of all 16 lads loving their football.
Special thanks to all the support we had on the day parents and friends dressed up in hats scarfs etc.
Gino, Nicole and the 16.2 boys supporting us.
Glyn, Mark and the prem’s lads for coming out and supporting us and helping us learn the song.
West Pymble next in the semi’s !!!!!!
