Match Report: State Cup – The 16.1 boys in blue are through to the final 8!

On Sunday, the 16.1 boys team travelled down to Kembla Grange for an away game against South Coast United. Thanks to some organising by Coach Andy, the boys and their supporters travelled in style, on a 57 seater team bus.

From the first whistle, it was a closely matched and physical game. Captain Rhett led the pack around the field well, providing the boys with direction and encouragement.

After what has been a very strong season to date, the boys soon found themselves in the unfamiliar position of being one goal down. However, the response was quick and the scores were level at 1-all at half time. To get there, the boys continuously executed clean plays, demonstrated amazing ball skills and displayed clear communication and co-ordination between the midfield and attack.

Very soon in the second half, the team took control with an excellent goal to nudge ahead on the scoreboard. With each goal, the blueys supporters in the grandstand erupted with cheering and applause that may have been heard halfway back to the mountains.

A tough, physical game was played where the boys utilised every opportunity that came their way. After a third goal, the boys had cemented their lead and went on to finish the game at 3-1.

They’re now into the quarter finals of Round 4, ready to take on some of the top contenders in the state.
