Match Report

The Blueys ladies started off strong, dominating a hopeful SMSC in the early stages of this crucial encounter. Despite the great passing and movement, few chances were being created. It was a corner which eventually led to the breakthrough after 20 minutes, with goal-scoring machine Hannah Sutherland ghosting in at the far post to send the ball crashing off the cross bar and into the back of the net. The remainder of the first half was lacklusture. The Blueys ladies struggled to continue with the same intensity, allowing SMSC too much possession and consquently conceding field position.

Fortunately, the ladies came out firing in the second half, with a second goal coming after about 10 minutes. A neat one-two between Melanie Semeniuk and Morgan Maloney opened up the static SMSC defence, with Morgan finishing her one-on-one clinically into the bottom left corner. From here the ladies never looked like losing, and kept SMSC defending for the remainder of the game.

In the final stages SMSC tired and with a little luck Blueys could have had a couple more, but in the end it was a well deserved 2 nil victory.
