Match Report AA.7 – 10-05-2009

BMSC 1
vs Colo
Opposition Score 1

Match Report Round 5 saw BMSC AA7’s clash with Colo at Knapsack Park, Home of Champions. After the Grasshoper was ruled out for the season during the week, and injuries and illness and mother’s day commitments forced Divot, Robo and Mantis out of the team, we were left with 12 fit players and a slight re-shuffle in positions. Newly appointed skipper, Captain Corinator lead the team onto the field only to stand around for the next 5 minutes while a pumped up Size 5 soccer ball was located. When the teams were able to finally kick off, Cranky was again in trouble with the ref. This time a record, only 4 seconds into the game. Colo managed an early goal against the run of play. However, BMSC continued to work hard and were rewarded with an equaliser shortly after. A great goal by the Ninja who deftly placed the ball over the keepers head and into the back of the net (or was that meant to be a cross??). Axe missed a golden opportunity to take the lead, hitting the ball wide of an open goal only to blame it on a “hamstring” injury. In an attempt to validate his injury, Axe then spent the remainder of the game on the sidelines (rather close to the beer esky), leaving the team with the bare 11. In a unanimous decision, Axe has had his killer name revoked, and will now be known as Mr Marshmallow. Captain Corinator was also slightly confused at one stage in the first half as he tried to get a piggy back from one of the Colo strikers. This resulted in the skipper being issued a yellow card which put a smile on Cranky’s face as the ref’s attention turned to someone else for a change. Although there were no goals in the second half it was a great team affort and the draw was a fair result. There was some strong defensive work with Slasher, Hayleys, and Captain Corinator all tackling hard and Disco G cleaning up the scraps with style and pizzazz. Some good movement in attack including a number of strapping runs by the Viper. Also of note was the fact that Dirty did not get snotted during the game. Man of the match was awarded to Beaker for a fantastic effort in covering every blade of grass and grain of dirt on the Knapsack pitch. Finally, special mention to Barry for an absolutely awesome job manning the canteen.
