Match Report AA.5 – 3 April, 2005

BMSC 1
vs Penrith RSL
Opposition Score 2
Match Report The first competition game of the season saw AA5 take on Penrith RSL. Contrary to all the media hype, our performance in the first half left much to be desired. A lack-lustre effort in the first 45 mins where we didn’t have a shot at goal was made worse by an 18 yard free kick for a handball by our goalkeeper. This was converted, yet the halftime score line flattered us, and we came out all guns blazing in the second stanza.

What followed for the bluies was a mountain of possession, aided by some good ball movement and teamwork, which resulted in some good pressure on the Penrith RSL goal. Still, we could not find an equaliser and a quick counter attack left our defence exposed and the score was 2 – nil.

To our credit, we fought hard and with more possession we earned a penalty. True to our form on the day, the spot kick was missed and ultimately this cost us a draw.

A late consolation goal to Jason Ford made the score line look respectable, but at the end of the day, we were our own worst enemy, and probably didn’t deserve to win.

At least there is plenty to improve on next week…
