Match Report: Our second match-up against Springwood was destined to be a hard fought battle and that is exactly how it unfolded. With no subs to draw on this week it was going to require a concerted effort from all players.

With a last minute dash to join the team from Will F and Robbie following refereeing duties in the preceding game, the team ran on fall of energy and enthusiasm..

We settled into the game well with some fine team work. On the back of some strategic passing Lachlan Bowe secured our first goal to take an early lead. It was a fine move through the centre by Lachie and very well finished off.

The opposition pressed forward and were really challenging our defence but we protected our goal extremely well. They did reply with a runaway goal scored from a long ball. Not our preferred style of play but it proved effective for them on this occasion.

Our defence adjusted extremely well to keep them from scoring any further ‘knock it long’ goals. We gained some very good possession which saw us regain control of the game. A fine press forward and pass from Chris to Gus resulted in our second goal. Chris set up the play beautifully and Gus threaded his way through plenty of defence to place the ball expertly past the keeper. A strong finish to the first half from our boys.

It was a tense struggle in the second half with some near chances being created but luck not going our way. What might have been? We just needed a metre either way to create a good shooting opportunity but credit goes to the Springwood defence who held their line very well and closed down our chances. Fine efforts from Chris, Zach, Gus and Aidan came close but we weren’t quite able to find the net.

A late goal to Springwood levelled the score and that’s the way it stayed until the final whistle.

We’ll take a draw and move into next week with our heads held high!

It was a ding-dong battle although I think it is fair to say we had the better of the play and possession across the match.

Lachlan Bowe was creative and determined in the midfield and scored a fine goal to secure man of the match honours whilst an honourable mention goes to the back four – Will (“the Boss”) Foreman, Will C, Luke D and Jacob (a heart as big as “Phar Lap”) Hunter – who did an outstanding job against an attack which was fast, tall and skilful. Luke S, Zach and Chris showed some fine touches on the ball in the midfield, as did Aidan up front. Quiet one for Robbie this week which is a good indicator of just how well we played and defended.

Every player gave 120% effort and the level of talk and encouragement continues to increase which is great to see and hear! The most pleasing aspects for me were the controlled team passing and determination shown by all the boys when defending, in all parts of the field. Congratulations on another fine team game!

All good news ahead of us with “LJ” expected back at training on Tuesday and Heath hopefully the week after!
