Match Report: We travelled for a lunch time kick off to the rabbit warren that is Glenmore Park. After two excellent training sessions this week the boys were keen to put it all together against a resilient opposition
Millsy was Captain & Jake started off in goal
We gained control of the game early. Alex & Chris combined superbly down the left on a number of occasions & got a cross in or won a corner. Damo shone in centre mid, getting plenty of ball & distributing well sending Finn raiding down the right wing. Ash & Dom came on for Eli & Chris & kept control in the centre of the park
We created a number of scoring opportunities – most notable Eli & Ash getting in behind the defence – but couldn’t convert. We finally went ahead, using what had been learnt in training. Aidy took a throw in & sent it straight down the line over the first defenders head. Finn got to the ball & sent a high cross in that bobbled around and fell to Liam to calmly knock past the keeper for his third in two games
Aidy & Keastie both had excellent first halfs – winning balls, distributing down the line well & throwing in down the line behind the defence regularly
A few changes at half time including Eli to GK & Jake into midfield & Dom dropping to centre back to give Millsy a run in centre mid. We continued to control the game, creating more chances but couldn’t find a second
Glenmore had a good ten minute spell but our back line led by Sam (sporting a smart new haircut) held firm, scrambled well & anything that did get through was well cleaned up by Eli in goal
In the last minute, a ball cleared by the opposition fell to Millsy in the centre of the park. After shaping to pass, he changed his mind seeing the keeper well off his line. His shot, fully 30 yards out, sailed over the scrambling keepers head and into the back of the net. A cracking, instinctive goal that any player, junior or senior would be proud of
Our best team performance of the season. Consistent effort all game. Damo named player of the week for his work rate and creativity in midfield
