50/50 NDSFA KNOCK OUT COMP.

Match Report

Over the weekend of 13/14 August, the NDSFA held a knock out Competition open to any U8/U9 Teams.

50 Teams nominated to celebrate the 50th Birthday of the NDSFA in a wonderfully organised event held at Cook Park.

U8/U9s is generally an ignored age group; the teams play in Zones and is non-competitive.

On Saturday we received a Bye, then met Wollemi who we beat comfortably 5-1.

On the Sunday we turned up for a 08.15 warm up and a 09.00 KO against Penrith FC who again we beat easily. The boys were playing some great football and there was a strong possibilty that it could turn into a long day.

Yoga Teacher Eva Stanners was invaluable as she helped with the boys preparation between every game and helping the boys totally relax. Opposition teams were totally baffled when they noticed our boys doing breathing and stretching exercises before a big hit out with the footballs before each game.

Next game was St Clair at 11.00, and again we cruised easily to victory, all the time rotating Goalkeepers so everyone stayed as fresh as possible. In what turned into a 4-match Sunday, it was a big ask to push 9 yr olds this much, and through illness we only carried 1 substitute.

Next was the 13.00 Semi Final against local rivals Blaxland. Players knew each other, parents knew each other and the atmosphere was electric.

NDSFA Officials who had been watching various games throughout the weekend commented that these were the two big guns. A shame really they had to clash in a Semi and not the Final, but that’s the nature of Knock Out football.

By this stage we were perfectly organised and playing awesome football. While the opposition had one or two talented individuals, we looked like a complete team, every boy sensational. Blaxland were outclassed, we beat them 2-0 but it could of been far more. What few chances they had were snuffed out by our brilliant defence.

We’d made the Final and watched the progress of the other Semi Final. Another long wait until the 15.35 KO and time for another Yoga session to relax and recharge the batteries.

The Final was a wonderful event, the boys went into the Change Rooms and quietly discussed what lay ahead, the Coach pointing out that this was the biggest game of football they have ever played. Next was to line up in the Tunnel while the Players names were called out over the PA System. The NDSFA did it all very well, exactly like you see in big Matches on TV.

The next 40 minutes we blew Glenmore Park away with our brilliant style of moving the ball all over the field. It was wonderful football to watch.

The Final whistle blew and we’d won the Final 3-0. No team had got within 2 goals of us during the 5 games, a fantastic achievement!

After collecting our treasured Medals, we munched on a huge Cake to celebrate what the whole weekend was about.

HAPPY 50TH NDSFA.
