Match Report |
Blue Mountains played Springwood in a very tight and hard-fought game, with James C’s last-minute goal earning a well-deserved draw. Blue Mountains played a disciplined team game, with backs Ben, Cameron and PoM Alex resolute in defence and clearing well while goalkeeper James B was solid and made some great saves. Midfielders Liam, Scott, Tom and Dan kept running and distributing well, wingers Tim and Justin provided good width while forwards Mitchell H and James C never stopped pushing towards goal. The game started evenly and competitively with Blue Mountains putting on a period of pressure after 8 minutes. First Dan’s free kick from his own half found James C who won a corner when a defender was forced to put the ball over his own goal line. Four minutes later a great move involving Scott on the right and Tim in the centre culminated in James C beating a defender and having his shot from the left of the penalty area saved. Then two minutes later following another corner James C pushed the ball back to Dan whose powerful long range shot went just wide. The game continued to be very hard fought and even. 26 minutes into the game Alex’s through ball found James C who beat a defender in his run up the centre but his shot went just over the bar. Then just before half time Justin saw his shot from the right also go just over the bar as a scoreless first half drew to a close. Blue Mountains started the second half with more positive attacking pressure, with Tim making a good run up the left wing in the second minute and finding James C with his cross but again the shot went just over the bar. But 10 minutes into the half it was Springwood who opened the scoring with a chip over the head of ‘keeper James B who had come off his line to dispossess an attacking forward. Blue Mountains were not disheartened and continued to play strongly, with the defenders’ commitment typified by a desperate chase by Ben to successfully dispossess a forward who had broken through. Both teams continued to play committed football and with only one minute remaining, Ben pushing forward from defence sent a ball through to James C whose accurate low shot found the left hand corner of the net for a deserved equaliser. |
