Blue Mountains controlled midfield to record a solid 6-2 win. Midfielders Daniel, Justin, Liam, Tim, Alex, Tom and PoM Scott gave great service to the forwards, enabling James C to score four goals and Mitchell H two. At the back, Mitchell C, Ben and Cameron put in a disciplined performance while James B was solid in goal. Blue Mountains started strongly with James C latching on to a Mitchell C free kick to win a corner after only 2 minutes. Three minutes later Mitchell H passed to James C who beat a defender and then the ‘keeper with a well placed low shot to open the scoring. Blue Mountains kept up the pressure with Liam forcing a corner a minute later after a good through ball from Daniel. Then 13 minutes into the game James C created a good opportunity by beating a defender but shot over the bar. 6 minutes later Daniel’s strong shot from the edge of the penalty area went just wide. Nine minutes before half time Daniel started a good move with Tim taking the ball up the wing but Liam couldn’t connect properly with his cross allowing the ‘keeper to collect. But a minute later Emu Plains equalised from a breakaway against the run of play. Four minutes later James C beat two defenders on the right, his cross found Mitchell H who found the back of the net to restore the lead, Blue Mountains going in 2-1 up at half time. Blue Mountains started the second half with more attacking pressure. After 3 minutes Mitchell H beat three defenders on the right, his cross found James C but his shot was blocked by a defender. 4 minutes later Scott started a good move; he found James C who passed to Mitchell H. The ‘keeper got to his powerful shot but was not able to stop it going into the net for Blue Mountains’ third goal. Two minutes later a long goal kick from James B found James C who was able to take the ball forward and score his second goal with another well-placed shot. Blue Mountains’ midfield domination continued to support attacks. 17 minutes into the second half Scott shot just wide from a corner and a minute later James C’s shot went just over the bar after Tim had put the ball through to Mitchell H. But another minute later Emu Plains pulled a goal back. This led to a short period of Emu Plains pressure, with Alex clearing a shot off the line at the far post following a corner. There was also a moment of comedy with keeper James B desperately grovelling for the ball while lying on the ground in a goalmouth melee, with the ball eventually running outside a post to safety. With seven minutes to go, Blue Mountains got back on top, with Scott having two shots in as many minutes. The first was saved after good work from Tim and James C while the second was blocked, but James C was on hand to slot home the rebound to complete his hat-trick. Four minutes later Mitchell H’s shot was pushed behind for a corner. Then in the last minute Scott made a great cross-filed pass to James C from just in front of the half way line, James C took it forward and sent a crashing shot from a sharp angle on the right which went in off the left hand post for his fourth and Blue Mountains’ sixth goal to finish off a great win. |
