Match Report |
Despite solid defence from Mitchell C, Tim, Cameron, player of the match Ben Ham and goalkeeper James, Blue Mountains were outrun and outplayed for most of this match, going down 5-0 to St Josephs. Daniel, Scott, Tom, Justin, Alex and Liam put in plenty of effort but couldn’t control the midfield while forwards Mitchell H and Ben Hof featured in some attacks but didn’t have enough of the ball to pose a serious threat. Blue Mountains started strongly. 3 minutes into the game Mitchell C’s free kick from inside his own half found Mitchell H who beat several defenders to get the ball to Justin on the right wing. Justin was also able to beat defenders to send over a fine cross but unfortunately none of the advancing Blue Mountains players could reach it. St Joseph got on top as the first half progressed and were 3 goals up by half time. Blue Mountains had a period of pressure late in the second half. 8 minutes before full time, Mitchell H had a shot saved after good work on the right flank by Tom and Scott. Then 2 minutes later Mitchell H ran past several defenders and laid the ball back to Daniel whose strong shot was saved by the St Josephs ‘keeper. But this pressure didn’t produce a goal while St Josephs added two more in the second half. It was the defenders who had had most to do in this game. Player of the match Ben Ham provided some great tackles to stop the fast opposition forwards and proved a very effective marker. Mitchell C was dependable as ever, providing strong clearances and Tim was also effective in dispossessing attacking forwards. Cameron was able to combine defence with runs down the right wing while goalkeeper James put in a solid display, coming off his line on several occasions to dispossess forwards who had out-run the full backs. |
