Match Report U14.4 – 5 August, 2006

BMSC 0
vs Claremont Meadows
Opposition Score 5
Match Report Blue Mountains started promisingly, with Aden and Mitchell C combining well on the left flank to win a corner in the first minute. But after 5 minutes it was Claremont Meadows who went one goal up with a fast forward scoring on a break.
Backs Steven, Tom, Liam and Will defended resolutely and ‘keepers James (first half) and Otis (second half) made several brave saves but they were defending against a strong wind in the first half as well as fast-running forwards. Midfielders Tim, Mitchell H, Mitchell C, Nick, Sarah and Otis (first half) and James (second half) ran strongly with good moves up the flanks while forwards Rachel, Aden and later Steven pushed forward and deserved more for their perseverance.
Blue Mountains made an impressive attack after 12 minutes. Tim beat three opponents on the left in his own half, passed to Mitchell C who took the ball forward and found Rachel on the right wing who was just beaten to the ball by the CM ‘keeper when advancing towards the goal. 2 minutes later Steven took a free kick which Mitchell C connected with and the opposing ‘keeper did well to push his shot behind for a corner.
But in end-to-end play Claremont Meadows scored a minute later with another fast forward breaking through.
Blue Mountains continued to push forward, with Nick winning a corner after a throw-in and then Rachel’s shot being saved after a good build-up from Otis and Steven.
But it was Claremont Meadows who scored again after two desperate saves by ‘keeper James and defender Tom in a goalmouth melee. Then in the last minute of the first half James collided with a goalpost making another good save.
CM went further ahead 2 minutes into the second half with a fast forward again breaking through. Then 4 minutes later Steven’s pace broke through the CM defence to win a corner. After another 5 minutes Mitchell C made a great tackle to save a certain goal after a CM forward had got past BM ‘keeper Otis. Then at the other end Mitchell H had a shot saved and Will’s shot went just wide. But Claremont Meadows were able to score a fifth goal on another break.
