Match Report | Blue Mountains controlled this sometimes physical game through fluid teamwork, strong defence, good service from midfield to the forwards and some fine individual performances, with Robert scoring four goals and Sarah her first of the season. Backs Ellie and Ben plus Steven and Liam in the first half and Tom and Robert in the second half were very dependable, with Steven’s speed cutting out several attacks, Ellie consistently winning the ball against often much larger attackers and Ben and Tom clearing well. After only 5 minutes Blue Mountains pressure enabled Brenton to have a shot on goal which was well saved by the Colo ‘keeper. 3 minutes later, Tim put Robert through on the left side of the field, Robert ran forward and his strong shot from a fine angle went over the goal-line after hitting the right post. 4 minutes later, it looked certain Colo would score on a rare attack but the ball rolled across the face of goal to be cleared. After 17 minutes Robert’s fine run took the ball from his own half to a clear position on the edge of the opposing penalty area but he was prevented from shooting by a defender’s foul. 2 minutes later Robert found the net after being put through by Brenton but this time it was Robert who was judged to have infringed a defender so it didn’t count. However only one minute later Brenton provided another through ball which Robert reached just before the goalkeeper, he took the ball to the left edge of the penalty area and was able to put an angled shot over the ‘keepers head to find the back of the net. Only 2 minutes later Blue Mountains were 3 ahead. Scott and Brenton combined well on the left, Brenton’s cross found Robert in front of goal whose strong shot completed a first-half hat-trick. 6 minutes into the second half, Tim won the ball on the half-way line and made a fine run through to the edge of the 6 yard area where his angled shot was well saved by the Colo ‘keeper. 8 minutes later, Tim won a free kick on the left side. Robert’s free kick was put behind by the ‘keeper for a corner which Robert took. After some goalmouth action the ball fell to Sarah in an unmarked position on the left side of the 6 yard box and she made no mistake as her strong shot provided her first goal of the season. Blue Mountains continued to attack, and 4 minutes later Robert made a good run up the left, Liam found his cross, beat 2 defenders and won a corner from which James’ shot was saved. After a further 3 minutes, Ellie won a ball but was fouled and injured and had to be taken off the field. However she was rewarded when Robert’s free kick from 25 yards went over the keeper’s head for Blue Mountains’ fifth goal. A minute later with Blue Mountains continuing to push forward Colo won an opportunistic goal from a break, the strong shot giving Blue Mountains ‘keeper Otis no chance. Blue Mountains continued to press forward. Steve’s shot was well saved after James’ run up the right and Otis, out from goalkeeping, won a corner for his efforts. Colo also mounted some attacks which came close but the score stayed at 5-1. |
