Match Report |
The improvement in Penrith FC caught the BM Coach and Players totally by suprise. It made for an entertaining game of football and enjoyable Saturday morning with lots of end to end action. No player was allowed to stand around and get cold; this game took a huge effort from all eleven players available. Goalkeeper Josh Cox had plenty of work and made several heroic saves, even playing injured. Central defenders Brandan DeJonge and Aiden Morgan held together a very stable defence and both went on to share the POTW Award. Our first goal was scored by Cameron Haywood who smartly waited for the bouncing ball to beat the keeper, and then headed powerfully into the net. Kali Ferris-Smith added the second, like he has done so many times this season, he picked the ball up outside the penalty area and skilfully dribbled, brushing off defenders and letting fly with a hard and low, perfectly placed shot. In the midfield Connor Stanners and Fraser Brown slugged it out with the opposition, while Nicholas Giles and Tristan Watson seemed to enjoy the extra space playing on the flanks. Fletcher Allison played several positions effortlessly and Gieran Vowels was as tough as always at fullback. Cameron nearly sealed a win in the dying minutes but his long range effort crashed against the post with Nicholas keeping his cool and striking the ball goalbound again. This time several defenders had covered and the ball was cleared off the line. 2-2 was probably a fair result in a tough challenge. |
