Match Report |
A sensational forty yard run and thunderous strike won the points! We travelled to Richmond minus several key players due to holidays and illness. Ten of us took to the field knowing we had to work hard and sweat bucket loads to be competetive. Richmond had the luxury of three subs which made the going even heavier against constantly rotating fresh legs. There wasn't the slightest hint of self pity as we held a strong shape for the entire match, supporting lone Super Striker Isaac Morris when we could. Callum Sinclair was given the job of following their Star Player No 10 around the park and performed the task perfectly. No 10 barely had a kick and never had time to organise any attacking movements. Chris Edwards was in rampaging form and full of confidence as he scored a goal that will be hard to beat for Goal of the Season. He collected the ball near the half way line and brushed past defenders into the penalty area where he unleased an unstoppable shot. We kept another clean sheet and it's purely down to the tenacity, and toughness of defensive pairing Kali Ferris-Smith and Brandon Dejonge. They rarely mistime a tackle. Goalkeeper Nat Stork adds to the defensive organisation with her sensational vocal skills, never afraid to let a player know where they're needed. Gieran Vowels also played a huge part in this victory and wingers Tristan Watson and Joshua Cox both showed incredible stamina in the midfield as they were constantly asked to help defend, and then support attacks. A huge ask for a ten year old on a full size field. Josh's huge effort won him this weeks POTW. At the final whistle, we knew we'd put in a huge effort and thoroghly deserved the three points, the drained look and smile on Nicholas Giles face said it all! |
