Match Report

It was a dark and stormy afternoon (that’s right – afternoon!) when the mighty Blue Mountains AA5 turned out at Potter Field for the follow-up game to their first win of the season. It was everyone’s favourite, the BMFC AA5’s playing a top four team – which, if we’re honest can sometimes be daunting, but these boys don’t understand the meaning of the word (no, really, they don’t; if anyone can give us a hand, please contact the club).

Both teams came out hard and there was a lot of back and forth. In fact, it was all back and forth, and apart from noting the grit and determination with which both teams were defending, there wasn’t much to say about the first half other than it was a very even contest finishing 0-0 at the half time interval. It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Blueys had had the better of what little chances there were.

After a stirring half-time talk (‘play like Barcelona’) the boys came out hard and the first 15 minutes of the second half belonged to Blueys. Unfortunately possession couldn’t be converted into chances as the St Marys defence held resolute. Then it happened. The sun was beginning to hide behind the tree and roof-top silhouettes of the St Marys cityscape, as Disco G, who had made a jinking run into the final third, was looking to cross to the far post. As G raised his head, an imperceptible raise of the eyebrows indicated he’d seen the keeper of his line! With a final stab at the ball, the cross had changed into a shot, a deft chip, if you will, and with that the lead was rightfully with the Boys in Blue. There were some tough and tense moments in the final 15 minutes but in the end a massive effort from everyone meant that the mountain men had held on for their second win in a row!

Special mentions to Slasher who jumped in between the sticks for the second week in a row, BK for being in the right place at the right time, and Ellem the Younger for his voracious cheering on the sideline!
