Match Report |
It was great to get a game in, considering all the wet weather we have had which has hindered our preparations. The lads came up against a GPFC squad who have remained unbeaten in about 4 or 5 seasons in local competition. We knew this game would be a tough match for our first game in Div 1, playing a successful team after our promotion from Div 2 last year. Our boys absorbed a lot of pressure in the first 20 minutes or so but our defence was solid across the park. We applied a lot of pressure in defence and made sure that if they got a shot away that it would be off target. We looked good and stuck to the plan of hitting on the counter and it worked a treat as we broke away and Noah slotted a shot past GPFC keeper to take us into the break at 1-0. Glenmore came out hard in the 2nd half and levelled with a scrappy goal after we failed to clear an attack. We again absorbed a lot of pressure as GPFC grew impatient and frustrated with our defence and we hit them on the counter again in around the 60th min and Noah put his body on the line and picked up his second goal on a far post run whilst injuring himself at the same time. The lads stood strong, played with a lot of passion and an unbelievable amount of heart to get over the line and end Glenmore Parks long unbeaten run. WELL DONE lads. It was a pleasing victory from a coach’s perspective and we are proud of all your efforts. Everyone played out of their skin! Great start to the new season in Div 1. |
