A couple of players out meant plenty of game time this week for everyone else. Connor, playing at the back in the first half, went up for a corner swung in by Ash and got there first with the outside of his right boot for the first. Not long after Dom got his first of the half with a solid strike. Damo played very well in goal in the first half only letting in one on the break. Before half time Dom got his second, running through onto a ball in behind the defence from Ash – Eli did well, supporting Dom, keeping the keeper in two minds as to whether a pass or shot was coming. In the second half, Dom went in goal and did really well too – only an OG from Alex Mills as he challenged the forward for the ball beating him. At 3-2 the kids noticeably lifted their game again, scrapping that little bit harder in the 50/50’s and breaking the opposition down with their excellent passing. They were rewarded with five more goals from Con (scrambled effort after his header hit the post), Jake (brilliant interchange of passes from Damo to put Jake away 1on1 with the keeper), Alex Cranbrook (intercepting a goal kick), Damo (quick thinking from Alex C to get Jake to do a quick throw in to him to put Damo away) and finally Ash (after putting one over the bar only a minute or so before, the next one Ash drilled with control into the bottom corner). Alex M and Maeve both had strong games in midfield. Eli also was strong in midfield but also showed his versatility playing at both centre back and the number 10 role, just behind the centre forward. The same versatility was shown by Aiden, starting in the number 10 role where he always brings others into the game so well but also a stint at right and left back. Plenty of excellent performances today so hard to choose a stand out. PoW went to Dom for two great goals, non stop work rate up front in the first half and good work in goal in the second.
