Match Report

The rain had cleared by mid afternoon to provide great conditions for our match. Con was the first half goalkeeper and kept a clean sheet with a few saves to make. Con also did well throwing the ball out wide to put us on the attack.

We were under the pump early but our defence was excellent, thwarting the skilful wide players by not diving in and timing challenges well. This continued all game and credit particularly to Con, Jake, Kane, Aiden, Dom and Alex Mills in securing a clean sheet.

We started working our way into the game as central midfield duo Eli and Ash asserted themselves and got us moving forward. Alex Cranbrook is really growing in confidence, out wide on the left and worked well with Ash. Ash had a shot well saved but Dom followed up well and put the ball away. Ash got us a second before half time running onto a ball and calmly passing it past the keeper into the net.

Second half Alex Cranbrook went in goal and did a good job, clearing a number of times. Jake was given some time up front and made the most of it with a cross come shot that went in (Aiden made sure but acknowledged the ball was already over the line).

Ash moved out wide on the left and completed his hat trick with two driving runs and rasping shots. Maeve worked hard, I don’t think Maeve knows how not to work hard, and had a solid half on the right hand side of midfield.

Damo’s touch and awareness to play the right pass is a big asset and playing in the centre of midfield allowed him to really show his ability.

It was an excellent team performance today and there were many in contention for PoW. For me Aiden edged it for some super defending and great attacking play when given his opportunity.
