Match Report

An early start today and playing on a full half field led to a very open game. Damo was solid in goal in the first half, making some good saves and only conceding one right on half time. Before that we scored two ourselves – the first from Aiden, a shot the keeper probably should have saved (but if you don’t shoot you don’t score!) and the second from Ash, a strong run into space behind the defence and knocking it past the oncoming keeper (see photos).

Finn had been highly involved in the centre of midfield in the first half and went in goal in the second. Alex Cranbrook went close, turning his defender and rasping a shot that was well saved. A minute or two later Alex got his goal – Kane passed well to Ash out of defence, Ash dribbled forward and put Alex away to score.

We practised taking, defending and attacking corners for some time at training and this paid off with our last two goals coming from corners. Eli sent in two great crosses – the first was flicked by Alex Mills and Con volleyed toward goal, the ball hand balled on the line and went in. The young ref gave a penalty (no goal, much to Con’s disappointment) and Damo stepped up to put the pen away. The second goal went to Maeve rifling in at the back post, with almost the last kick of the game (in Maeve’s last game of the season).
