Match Report – O35.1 – Game Date: 29/05/2016

BMFC O35.1: 2
vs
Werrington FC: 1

BMFC Goal Scorers: Paulie, Suarez

Player of the Match: Paulie

Match Report: Coming off two losses we travelled out to the Croation Club, home of Werrington FC. A simple route – M4, Mamre Rd, Luddenham Rd, on your right. Suarez missed the bit about on your right and missed the kick off as he was half way to Canberra

Upon arrival Paulie was blinded by the glare of the house across the paddock with 946 solar panels. There’s a regular debate post training about who has the most panels after Football’s new pad had an impressive 34 but this joint near Werro’s pitch had him well covered. Paulie had to be pulled away from admiring to warm up, which for those who know Paulie and how much he loves his football will acknowledge how impressed he must have been

Sean explained the new formation before the game – sweeper, 2 markers, 4 in midfield (but with a twist, the two in the middle have a license to get forward and the two out wide must come into the middle when that happens, I think), three up upfront and their job is to run a lot and harass the defenders (which yours truly was happy with as I can do that). After the fifth explanation of the system we said we’d got it (we had to as the ref was tapping his watch telling us we needed to kick off). There was something about 3 C’s in the pre-match brief as well from Sean – it was ok as Football said he knew who they were in our team

To the game. The new formation worked a treat (see we had all been listening Sean). Cobra, Pirate and Paulie pressed and harangued the poor Werro defenders, JB and Braddles were able to regularly maraud forward from central midfield, Rash and Greenie came in to pick up the opposing midfielders and the back three of The Twisted Firestarter, The Bearded Lady and Tolly worked together seamlessly. Kev the Keeper had little to do. We created chances but the score remained 0-0 at the break

Second half was going swimmingly until Werro scored on the counter. Our lack of penetration despite massaging the ball around the field beautifully looked like it was going to hurt us yet again. This week though we struck back quickly, a short corner from Greenie to Rash who crossed for Paulie, who managed to take his eyes off the panels for 2 seconds, to nip in and bullet home a header. We had a couple of one on one chances that another day would surely have resulted in a goal. We scored the winner with about 20 to go – playing out from the back Dunny found Cobra in acres of un-marked space, the ball was whipped into the back stick for a fast arriving Suarez to control and knock home

After the game Rash utilized his best negotiating skills with the Marshal who came and told us we couldn’t drink our own beer and had to buy from them. We managed to escape with our lives and headed to the Lapo to talk about how well we played and hear that Kev the Keeper sends his young kids onto the roof with chainsaws to cut down the overhanging branches – I think he called it character building, JB called it something else
