Match Report

Two games in two days against the same team – there should be a Nepean by-law against that for o35’s. Just the one combined match report.

Game One 1-1

Everyone was available except for JB who had once again defied Coach Joe’s request for an early night with a mug of hot chocolate to attend an all night rave in Luddenham.

It was a real tussle in the first half that Penrith edged – their goal coming from a shot that hit the post then the back of Quinny’s melon and trickled over the line despite Zap’s best efforts.

Second half we turned the tide and started to create chances. Forrest hit one across the face of goal and just wide and another straight at the keeper. Finally The Pirate popped up and got in between the keeper and defender to get something on the ball and see it roll over the line, arrr.

Both sides had chances to win the game but 1 each it stayed.

Game Two 5-1 win

First up no ref so a huge thank you to Harry for stepping in to help us out at the last minute.

Dunny was the only one out, instead standing in as Head Chef at The Sausage On The Hill.

JB had pulled himself together after 24 hours straight raving.

We started brightly and Diaz scored the first with a 25 yard pile driver and celebrated with a couple of very sprightly jumps.

More chances followed – Hornswoggle hit the bar with the keeper beaten; Pom arrived in the box to meet a cross but as the crowd on the hill identified his biscuit tin head meant the header did not trouble the keeper.

The equalizer came after Captain Redbeard made a driving run at our defence and his shot was saved but not held by Quinny – the ball followed in.

The lead was regained in the shadow of half time – a goal on the break, a free-flowing move from JB to Diaz, the ball sent into the box beyond the last defender for The Pirate to arrive and loop his header over the keeper – arrr was the cry form the Hill.

The opposition blew up believing The Pirate was off side and Harry the ref was favouring us – we sent in our best mediator to settle things down … no, sorry, actually we sent in Pom and that didn’t help at all!

In the second half we dominated but could not find the net through a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping.

Rash made an excellent cover tackle as Penrith looked likely to get through but Harry ruled that there was a small amount of leg taken at the same time.

Finally Suarez laid the ball off on the edge of the box for JB to rifle home with his left boot.

After that it was all about playing for time but oddly it was the Penrith boys and not us slowing the game down – there were some busted bodies out there and we pressed on to take full advantage.

Forrest was brought down on the edge of the box. JB shaped to shoot but instead pulled out the sand wedge to dink the ball over the wall for Forrest to arrive and head home.

With the game almost done a quick short corner was taken by Ipswich to JB to cross to the far post and Marquee claimed the last touch.

After the game at The Sausage On The Hill, the $4 sausage on a roll with caramelized onion proved extremely popular selling out in double quick time.
