Match Report – Waratah League – Game Date: 05/02/2022
BMFC Waratah League
vs
Marayong
Match Report: After a month of pre-pre season, pre-season proper started away to Marayong, one of the best squads in the Blacktown comp.
Upon arrival we learnt the games were in the stadium on the synthetic field – a nice upgrade as we weren’t aware of this.
Spacious changing rooms, a massage bench, showers – fantastic facilities & the same not too far away for Knapsack.
RESERVES: 1-6 Marayong
With a number of players unavailable, Brad & Paul from the 35’s added some experience to a young team. First game playing together & a lot for us to learn from the hit out. Under pressure early, two goals conceded including a penalty. The boys dug in and pulled one back with Lachy Cassells put away by Brad down the left and Lachy calmly slotted past the oncoming keeper. It stayed this way until half time.
First 15 of the second half and the boys got on top but couldn’t find an equaliser. A goal against the run of play made it 3-1 and it stayed this way until 3 late goals as the boys tired in the closing few minutes.
A final score line that didn’t reflect the massive effort by the boys. Lots of great performances – too many to mention everyone.
My player of the match James – some excellent saves and great distribution.
FIRSTS: 0-4 Marayong
The boys came out strong in the first 20 minutes before the drinks break and dominated play. Ben was unlucky not to score with a free kick that curled back toward the goal and hit the post. Marayong also hit the bar just before the drinks break.
After the drinks break Marayong stepped it up and two quick goals had us on the back foot. Good reaction though to steady the ship and see it through to half time.
Second half was tough as we were down to one sub and the game continued to be a real physical test for our young lads. No one shirked a tackle or backed down and although 2 more goals were conceded we created plenty of chances ourselves but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Like the first game, great shift put in by all. Player of the match for me Jake – started left midfield but moved early into stopper after Clay went off with an ankle knock & was rock solid.
Thank you to all our friends, parents and sponsors for your support.
