Match Report: Anzac Day. 1pm kick-off and our first home game of the season entertaining a newly formed Glenmore Park
With the talk of an end of season trip continuing to gain momentum, a bold decision was made to sell sausages & a few other things on the day to raise funds toward said trip
K-nobs was a late arrival securing his starting spot on the bench. Liam came kitted up following his first week back at training after his pre-season injury – one more week of training & rest & we should hopefully see Liam back playing. Great to have Sam back too and available to play his first game of the season
Andy arrived mid team talk. Eli has just taken over first place from Andy in the Fantasy Football league the team has running. Andy has been top pretty much all season and congratulated Eli…
The game got underway & was played at a high tempo as the teams jostled to take control. Ten minutes in, starting with Eli, the ball was passed from one end to the other through Damo, Aidy & Finn who put Jake away on goal who buried it left foot in the corner – Ash was watching on & gave a nod of approval for the finish
On 14 minutes Damo took a short corner to Harry who’s cross came to Aidy on the edge of the 18-yard box – his shot arrowed toward the bottom corner through the crowded box & with the keeper unsighted went clean in
Glenmore’s main threat came down their left side but Clay did and an excellent job in closing the danger down. A lot of long balls were played from the back to the front too but again our defence of Luke, Finn, Clay, Sam & Brayden dealt with it pretty comfortably
On 21 minutes Clay played a delightful ball into the opposition box to Ethan who controlled with his first touch & fired home with his second
Play slowed right down as the half wore in
Half time focus was play short from goal kicks as much as we can – the first goal came from that – long balls are a 50/50. Also when in possession, be patient, move them side to side & find a way to get behind them or take a shot around the 18-yard box
4 mins into the second half and another pinpoint cross, this time from Martin, again found Ethan & a carbon copy control & finish of his first goal
17 mins in and the ever-lively Harry played a ball from the centre of the park for Ethan to race through and complete his hat trick
27 mins and Damo curled a beauty into the top corner from the edge of the box
Glenmore pulled one back after a scramble off a corner & VAR check, after animated appeals from the boys that the ball had gone out of play, and the goal stood
Finally, on 42 mins, K-Nobs notched after a long ball from Jake to Brayden, given 10 minutes up front, to pull the ball back from the byline for K-nobs to sweep home
Back on the hill Andrew & Evan had done a terrific job. Intend to run a BBQ for as many home games as we can this season – I will buy more bread for the next one so no one has to have a sausage on a napkin!
