Match Report: It was a perfect autumn morning. The sun shone brightly, the sky a brilliant blue. This was a morning that could have been spent by a leisurely breakfast in bed, or sipping lattes at the local café or a stroll by the river. But for the U14 Blue Mts Girls, this perfect autumn morning was pitch perfect… soccer pitch perfect. And this perfect pitch was to be found at Knapsack Park, Field 2. Game time, 10.45am.

The whistle blew and the game vs Emu Plains was on.

Within 2 short minutes, a player was down. It was clear this was no simple fall. Kaitlyn was in severe pain and had a swollen wrist to prove it.  Brave Kaity was taken off the field and the game resumed.

Throughout the whole first half, no one team dominated. It flowed fairly and evenly up and down the field. The Blueys had a tendency to bunch up from time to time which hindered their play, but it was no ordinary kick that put the first points on the board.

From the far left wing, a kick that would have rivalled the English Premier League soared over the heads of every player to land neatly in the top right hand side of the net. There was a few seconds of silence as the players and crowd tried to comprehend the reality of the goal they had just witnessed. Then the Emu Plains players and crowd erupted. We were down 1 Nil. But who can begrudge a kick like that!

The first half finished shortly after.

We were down, but far from out.

And just to prove that, within a few minutes of the first half Josie scored and brought the score to 1 all!

The rest of the game flowed evenly up and down the field. This was very much a match of equals. Both teams played solidly. Ainsley consistently kept them out of the goal, Thea’s speed and defence denied them plenty of chances. B3 demonstrated some impressive fancy footwork to keep Emus guessing. Petunia held her place solidly in the centre.

In the closing minutes, we were down 2 to 1. Solid pressure had resulted in a corner to us. B1 had not had much time on the field this season and it was time for her to take charge of this ball. The kick could not have been better, it sailed in a perfect arc to land right at Josie’s feet. With a deft flick of her foot she sent the ball straight into the back of the net. It was 2 all! Josie with her 6th goal for the season and 2nd double.

A minute later the game was over.

It was not a win, but it was not a loss.

Well done girls!

Next week, it’s the ladder leaders, Blaxland!
