Match Report U14.4 – 10 June, 2006

BMSC 0
vs Penrith FC
Opposition Score 4
Match Report Blue Mountains started strongly in drizzle and went close to scoring twice in the first 5 minutes. Firstly Mitchel H was fouled 30 yards out and Mitchel C’s shot from the resulting free kick was saved by the ‘keeper. Then a minute later Scott’s throw-in on the right found Otis then Sarah at the near post. The ball came back to Scott whose strong shot went just over the bar.

The game then became a dour midfield struggle matching the conditions. Blue Mountains disciplined defence of Tom, Will, Mitchell C and Liam stood firm against Penrith’s forwards with golakeeper James clearing well any ball which came through to his penalty area. Meanwhile midfielders Mitchell H, Tim, Scott and Sarah ran tirelessly giving support to forwards Otis, Ben and Rachel.

But after 22 minutes Penrith scored a goal on the break against the run of play. The remainder of the first half saw concerted Blue Mountains attacks starting with Tim’s pace forcing a clearance behind to give the first of a succession of corners from which Rachel’s shot was blocked to give another corner. But no more goals and Penrith went in at half-time with a one goal lead.

Then a David Beckham free kick was deflected to record an own-goal (sorry, wrong game!)

Penrith increased their lead 9 minutes into the second half with a deflection from a free kick. 3 minutes later Liam was hurt in a tackle which reduced Blue Mountains to 10 players, Otis having gone off earlier with a back problem.

Blue Mountains struggled after this and despite good work from the defence and attacking runs from Tim and Ben, Penrith scored two further goals without reply.
